Get Your House in Order: Empty

Image
"For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11 Empty shelves and empty walls and lots of full boxes is what is going on at our house right now. And I can hardly move a muscle at this point (smile) so this is post will be short and sweet. Please remember our family this week as we move. I rest on my life verse "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding but in all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6 What a blessing! Night ya'll! Day#151 You are God Blessings, Suzanne

Welcome, Summer! Day#147 Welcome a change of season Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: At the Most Unlikely Moment

Image
"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.  When they are troubled, we will be able to give them  the same  comfort God has given us." 2 Corinthians 1:4 Silvia and I at my first Race for the Cure  You know, six years down the road, I am finding myself blending into life, as I knew it before cancer. As I walked into a doctor's office today (for work, not a personal appointment), I was immediately taken back six years. A couple was talking to the receptionist, the lady had a hat on with a big cross on it and "race for the cure" shirt, and I heard a little of the conversation going something like "it's causing my levels to be low." So familiar, all of it. The door slammed behind me. They turn around and say "Oh go ahead we are just talking." I say hello to the receptionist but I look straight at the lady and out from my mouth comes "I've had cancer and I just want you to know I will pray for

Get Your House in Order: Freedom

Get Your House in Order: Meet Harley

Image
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for inquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him and by his wounds we healed." Isaiah 53:5 Harley..the rescue This is Harley, our not so socialize little gem who was rescued and kept for two years before we adopted him. Or should I say Abby adopted him (with her own money). He is sweet as pie to all of us, but don't you dare enter the Moore household without letting us put him up! He is very protective. We don't really know that much about his story. Was someone cruel to him? Is he  just naturally this anxious around strangers? We will never know. Abby just knew he was supposed to be ours and we have loved him ever since we brought him home. That face gets me every time though..... This got me thinking about our stories. We all have one, two, five, ten that make our very being. I am so thankful for the people all throughout my life, through different stories, that have just loved me wh

Get Your House in Order: New Blooms

Image
"For, "All flesh is like grass, and all it's glory like the flower of grass.  The grass withers, and the flower falls off.   But the word of the Lord endures forever."  And this is the word which was preached to you." 1 Peter 1:24-25   Day#143 Enjoy what is blooming Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: Papa's Birthday

Image
"The righteous who walks in his integrity-blessed are his children after him! Proverbs 20:7 We surprised Papa with a birthday bbq dinner, cake and ice cream! Oh to have that time on the front porch, to sit and relax a few minutes...on the first day of summer (for the kids). A fun way to spend our Friday night! The kids made him cards and we gave him a few books to read. This is the first time ever, I didn't have him a card (he gives the sweetest cards so I try and always find a perfect one for him). I said to him "Well, Dad I guess I am your card this year."  He just smiled and said "I am so glad to have my living card." Big hug.  Blow'em out, Papa! It has been a birthday week for me, three parties in one week! Celebrate good times, come on!! Happy Birthday, Dad! Thank you for being the spiritual leader of our family, for your constant love and support and for all the stories you share!  Day#142 Thankful for a Godly Fath

Get Your House in Order: Paying Attention

Image
"Elijah was a human being, even as we are.  He prayed earnestly that it would not rain,  and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years."  James 5:17 I so love it when someone gives me a book! Though lately I have not had much time to read, I grab this one, every chance I get. My neighbor, Carol gave it to me the first day we put our house on the market. I happened to drive by her house in a hurry, while getting the dogs out of the house for a showing. As we were talking she said " I have a book I need to give you" and she ran inside, handed in the car window and off I went. Total game changer, this book! These moments happen daily and I thank God, that he cares for me so much, to place the right person in my path, at the right time, with exactly what I need, for that season. I also try and pay attention and see if I need to be the person on the giving end. It's about paying closer attention. Acknowledging Him and He will make yo

Get Your House in Order: First year of High School

Image
"Take delight in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 Abby, 9th grade Last day of ninth grade for this one!  So glad she had such a great first year of high school! What a blessing! Day#140 Change is good Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: Luke's Birthday

Image
"This is what the Lord God says: I , myself, will search for my sheep and take care of them." Ezekiel 34:11 2003 2015 Pre-bday decorating We had a ball! Get it? That was the theme this year:)  He opened and enjoyed gifts this morning before school! I took three dozen Krispy Kreme donuts to his homeroom class at school! We had pizza, cookie cake and gifts with grandparents tonight! This boy has been celebrated today! Rats in party hats!! The happiest of birthdays to you, Luke! I pray this year is your best one yet and that you grow by leaps and bounds in your relationship with the Lord. I pray that "the joy of the Lord is your strength." (Nehemiah 8:10)  I am especially proud of your "all year good conduct award", way to go! And that you achieved your goal of saving up for what you wanted (and waited and waited:)). I love you so much! Day#139 Know that He is God Blessings, Suzanne (Mommy)

Get Your House in Order: Time to Start Packing

Image
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him."  Psalm 28:7 I packed my first box today. Now we are getting down to the wire and it still doesn't seem real. I am excited for the change yet I found myself in a little bit of nostalgia on my walk. I rounded the corner to hear a familiar sound then I saw it...a pink barbie jeep! I can still see my little Abby zipping around in hers, with Luke as the passenger, chewing on gum like nobody's business! Makes me laugh thinking about it! Then a little further up the street, I approach a father watering his grass while holding the hand of his tiny toddler son, I was taken back. Especially since Luke is turning twelve tomorrow and Abby will be driving a real jeep (cherokee) in October! Those memories correlate back to this house on Gentilly Drive. So, it's time to start packing. That is, after the party tomorrow night! It'

Get Your House in Order: She's Incredible

Image
"Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of this knowledge by us in every place." 2 Corinthians 2:14 Deborah's Birthday Celebration JCBW 2015 I look forward to the third Sunday of each month. I see this beautiful lady, Deborah, who if you have ever talked to me long enough, you will hear me mention her. She has taught me more about the Lord in the last thirteen years than anyone else! Always pointing me back to the living word of God and always in love, as she shares her experiences and wisdom. We met at work so many years ago and had no idea that the Lord was connecting us to be together in ministry. Jesus Christ the Better Way Ministry is in it's twenty-eighth year (I think I am correct on that) and I consider it an honor to be a partner in their ministry. She and Cliff are so dedicated to praying for others, it's an amazing thing to see how they live out the hands and feet of Christ.

Get Your House in Order: A Very Long Hall

Image
"Assuredly, I will set you free and care for you. Assuredly, I will intercede for you." Jeremiah 15:11 I have said before that our house is the typical ranch with some long rooms! Our hall (no it is no a bowling alley) pictured here, is self explanatory..haha! It has been a struggle over the years to try and figure out what to put on the walls. They were golden yellow for years but are now painted in wool skein like that flows through the rest of the house. I have enjoyed the simplicity of putting one big item on each wall. All of our bedrooms are on this hall and it's well traveled:) Please note the old doorbell hanging up high,  that has a "dinger" with it, it will be sad to leave that behind. We have had fun with that. I do love the new light fixtures as well.  This long hall can also describe my week "the long haul." However, I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel on the home front...can't wait to share.  God is so fai

Get Your House in Order: Refined

Image
"The horse is made ready for the day of war,  but power to overcome is from the Lord." Proverbs 21:31 Abby at her lesson..Rocking S Farms!!! It sure was nice to be out at the farm yesterday (and celebrate Suzanne's birthday, we love you:))! A welcomed break, some fresh air and time to sit in the sunshine. My pace has been fast and my steps have many but I know that the Lord is leading me closer to Him as I travel along. This move has been the biggest test of my faith since I had cancer. So much has been parallel to that journey and yet the consistency is the faithfulness of my Father. I see it in such a different light though. It's all the same to God. He is more interested in our character than our comfort. Tests bring testimony. The Glory is His. All of our circumstances in life are to teach us to be more like Him. Refinement takes us through the fire. We don't stay there. We come out. Better than when we went in. (See Daniel 3 about the Hebre

Get Your House in Order: Double Blessed

Image
"Her children rise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28 Happy Mother''s Day to both of my Mom's..better known these days as Gigi and Nonna! This picture was taken on our wedding day (1998) at the bridesmaid brunch.  I gave them each a bouquet with two white roses symbolizing the blending of our families and one red rose symbolizing Christ. It amazes me now, seventeen years later ,as I think of all we have been through together....this is still the best picture of our relationship. Christ has been the center that has molded and shaped the relationships over the years! "He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:17 Christmas breakfast, Thanksgiving, Easter, birthdays...most holidays we all celebrate together..exactly how I like it! I am blessed to have two Mom's to call on in time of need, laughter and tears! I love doing life with you..love you both very much! Happy Mother's Day! Day#130 Mothers ar

Get Your House in Order: Quality Time

Image
"You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." 1 John 4:4 Luke and I did the UAB Alumni Society 5k tonight at 6:00 pm! I say "did" because I clearly did not do much running in the last month to prepare for it. Luke ran on ahead of me within minutes! He was eleven minutes ahead of me, very proud of his determination!! We had fun before and at the post race dinner! This was not a planned event, it just worked out this way when one of my co workers could not attend the race. I was thrilled that Luke wanted to go! It was a great way to spend Friday night, what a blessing!   Mother's Day weekend had started off well! Time is the best gift:) Day#128 Blessed Surprises Blessings,  Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: Crazy Carpool

Image
"Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you." 1 Peter 5:7 Boston loves being one of the boys in carpool..haha! Luke and I saw this on a license plate today ..... 1 Peter 5 6 I asked him to google the verse and read it out loud....Wow, thanks Lord.   "If you humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, in his good time he will lift  you up." 1 Peter 5:6 Day#127 Lay it down Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: The Same Message

Image
"Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts." Psalm 119:94 As I painted yet another window, I just happened to look down at my hand before I rinsed it off. There it was. Another white cross. This time I said to myself what the Lord first told me in 2009 "this is not about me, it's about the cross." It is about total unmistakable dependence on my shepherd (Psalm 23:1).  So, in 2009 the day before my cancer diagnosis, he gave me the simple steri-strips in my hand and today He gave me a painted form...same message..this life we live, it's about Him, not us and to live and tell of His great and mighty works. Just had to share that. Only God. I hope this brings you reassurance tonight in whatever situation you find yourself, He is right there. Seek Him! I am in praise mode..how about you? Day#126 White cross moments  Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: Sweet Reminder

"Let everything that has breath praise the LORD." Psalm 150:6 Abby "chalked" this up before school... what a sweet reminder today! Praise the Lord! Day#125 Praise Him  Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: Patio

Image
"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want." Psalm 23:1 This is our much loved patio and I so wanted to just sit down and relax tonight! However, there is not much time for that this week!  This is actually a game area where Jeff and the kids have a string and hook competition. They discovered the game when we were on vacation last year and came home and made one. The red chalkboard is the scoreboard. The table and chairs were added recently to fill the corner for showings (and interfere with the hook game..oops). And I am making plans for my early morning coffee appointment with the Lord in this chair! I figure I just have a few more out here so I need to take advantage of it! I was so sweetly reminded today that "HE IS MY SHEPHERD." Period. Day#124 Coffee and quiet time is a must Blessings, Suzanne "He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with his arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead thos

Get Your House in Order: Cycliad Challenge 2015

Image
" I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14 90 miles for these two.. Kristen and Alan! The Cycliad Challenge was completed today at Railroad Park and we had three of our very own TherapySouth Service Director's finish the race! Amazing guys, so proud of you! The money raised for this event was to support the UAB Patient Navigator Program. I was very touched hearing from some of the navigator as to how they connect with cancer patients from diagnosis to survivorship! The Deep South Cancer Foundation and UAB Comprehensive Cancer did such a great job with this four weekend event. The closing ceremony was today. 68 miles for Doug! It was a nice day at work in the sunshine! Being a part of events like this is just one of the many things I love about my job! I had about five patients stop by the tent who had been treated at one of our clinics, that was a treat!Having a Steel City Pops chocolate bar with

Get Your House in Order: Kids Bathroom

Image
"Great is the Lord; and greatly to be praised!  And His greatness is unsearchable." Psalm 145:3 Abby's Vanity Area The kids bathroom is just about the last room on the list to complete the Gentilly Drive home  tour:)Finding this large size bathroom with a doable color 1950's tile color was a selling point for me in our house! There is ALOT of tile in this bathroom, certainly shows it's age and that's what I love about it. It is placed right in the middle of Abby and Luke's rooms in the hallway. And it has developed nicely over the years into their own space.  Abby uses it more than Luke..girls have way more to do than boys to get ready!!  Here's a view from the door. Double sinks and cabinet on each end. Plenty of drawers and cabinet space. Of which I cleaned out a few months ago...old bath toys, plastic figures, rocks and treasures from many bath times in the tub (sniff, sniff). The white floors had carpet over them when we
