31 Days of Pink: Going Public (Repost)

Image
"For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" Mark 8:36 Halloween 2014, with Boston I never intended to have such a public battle with breast cancer, I still don't at times. It wasn't a choice, is was a calling.Well, let me rephrase that..I met him at the call and did have to make the choice to follow in obedience or go my own way. Anytime I speak,  I  usually open with  "I am the survivor of many things, as have all of you, breast cancer is just one of them. However, it is the "one" that the Lord chose to use more publicly, more transparently and more for HIS GLORY than any other trial or victory thus far :) It was about Him anyway...no other way could I have stayed the course!! Several thoughts on "Going Public" ... It's not for everyone . I get that. And it doesn't mean that every detail was or is disclosed. Nor does it mean that I only share on social media or blogs.  I hav

Get Your House in Order: Don't Shoot the Messenger

"Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know." Jeremiah 33:3 God calls us to hard assignments. Just like completing them in school, you must follow all the instructions and more than anything, finish and turn in the assignment. The grade comes only after it is turned in. When you have done your part and there's nothing else to do but give it to the Teacher. Matthew 14 gave me some insight on just how much our associations, choices and unwavering faith factor in when sharing the gospel. At all cost. And complete the assignment given. We all know John the Baptist. I have read this before but for some reason, this story stuck with me this go round of study. I would love to hear any thoughts. It's been sitting in my "draft box" a while and after rereading tonight, just thought I would share. I am turning in my assignment. Notes on Matthew 14: Cost of Sin and Choices Herod had put John the Bapt

31 Days Of Pink: Sweet Weekend

Image
"For in him we live and move and have our being." Acts 17:28 It's been a "sweet" weekend, literally! There is nothing like having a best friend come through town and stop by  just to see you! Shannon and her husband, Stephen were headed to the big game this weekend and we were able to have a late afternoon treat at Steel City Pops! Seems lately we have been talking our way through this season of life. Many texts, quick phone calls, extended phone call are lifelines at times but the Lord just knows when it's time to be together! We have pretty much had a long distance friendship since first grade, and we used to record letters to each other! Atleast texts get there a little quicker..haha! Very thankful for that time:) Just an hour or so earlier, I had picked up Mom, gone to carpool, dropped Mom and Abby off at the house and headed to meet them. That's the other "sweet" part of the weekend. Mom stayed with us, our first houseguest. Dad

31 Days of Pink: Some Milestones...

Image
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:17 Luke 2015   It really is true..don't blink..they grow up so fast! We had several milestones last week but I never captured them on a post! Luke got braces (again), he had them partially a few years ago and this was phase two. I snapped this picture after his middle school dance yesterday...he said he had such a good time! In the afternoons, he usually gives me a report of his day, and then I quiz a little more. I had to explain to him that girls are just made for more details..haha! He quickly reminded me that guys don't do that. Ahhh, seventh grade. Abby 2015 Abby got her driver's license on her birthday and has been on the road ever since! It has been a game changer around here! This picture is from last week when she went to the pumpkin patch with her discipleship group. She won't be able to

31 Days of PInk: Cancer Connectors

Image
"He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us." 2 Corinthians 1:4 About a month or so ago, I dropped a goody basket off at my child's high school for the teachers. Now, let me preface and say it was a work gig, we like to do that at the beginning of a school year in the communities where we have clinics. That covers a lot of schools these days, TherapySouth has grown quite a bit! Anyway, I remember it to be a Friday and I also remember thinking when I pulled in, it was a strange time to be coming there. I had even been there just a few hours earlier (umm, hello morning carpool). Abby politely told me she wouldn't mind if waited to take care of business after she was in the school. Totally get it. I go in, chat a few minutes and as I am walking out, I hear a familiar voice say "she is a cancer survivor and a prayer warrior." I stopped and turned

31 Days of Pink: Repost of "Scars"

Image
"I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well."  Psalm 139:14 My scars have healed over time.  The ones left are the reminders  to never take lightly,  the Sovereignty of God.  Just think of His nail scarred hand. My first day at the Cancer Center 2009 5 years later, on yearly visits now, 2014 Day#299 God is Sovereign Thankful Blessings,  Suzanne "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will act." 31 Days of Pink: On My Nightstand

Image
" Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.  We are the clay, you are the potter;  we are all the work of your hand." Isaiah 64:8 Many books end up on my nightstand. Atleast they used to...lately it's just my phone and honestly, it's just not the same. I miss reading. Sure, I usually only get through three pages and start dozing but it's I can pick back up the next night. I begin again. And in the theme of 31 days, the book I was given today is perfect! "The View From the Front" is the eight month journey through the eyes of her husband, Bill, a testimony to the love expressed by Team Crystal..and the promises of a Big God (taken from the back of the book). I am excited to read a new story and from the perspective of the spouse. Most of all to see the handprint of an Almighty God through the process of breast cancer. Guess what? In the first chapter, the surgeon's name mentioned happens to be mine as well. Nothing is a coincidence. Well, gott

31 Days of Pink: Sweet Tooth

Image
"How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth." Psalm 119:103 Thank the Lord for friends that you can walk into their house and say "do you have anything sweet?" Almost before you say hello. Straight to these mini pink cupcakes for the cure! Done. All it took to satisfy that craving...smile!Thank you, Tiffany:)  I didn't participate in the big pink race this year and honestly I did not even get a walk in today. I am still putting things away in the house and most of the day was spent either looking for items or temporarily storing items in the attic until we do the big renovation. If I ever tell any on you that I am planning on moving again, please redirect me ..haha! Tis' so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at his word.....that song has been in my heart and on my mind all day. Trusting Jesus is sweet and eternally satisfying. Have you had a sweet tooth lately? Day#295 Cupcakes Blessings, Suzanne

31 Days of Pink: Abby's Sixteenth Birthday

Image
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 (Abby's Favorite Verse)  Happy sixteenth birthday to miss Abigail Grace, our Abby!! Everything is different this year, new house yet you are no different..still as sweet as you were sixteen years ago, the day I laid eyes on you! How about the decorations, polka dots to match the sheet rock on the walls, might as well go with the theme..haha! It's a tradition to sit at the decorated table and open presents before school..smile! This may go down as the birthday with the worst pictures but we had a great day! I took her to take her driving test (she passed..yay!!) and then headed into work. It sure was nice to send her to the store when I realized right in the middle of the recipe that we needed something else! She requested that we just hang out here tonight and that I make potato soup. Done. Easy peasy. Well, when you have all the ingredients. She gladly went after i

31 Days of Pink: Pre-Birthday Dinner

Image
"Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4 It's almost Abby's sixteenth and we have started celebrating...what a great way to spend our little fall break! We only took twenty-five pictures to get this one group shot..haha.  Make a wish... And this was Abby's surprise when she walked in this afternoon from our outing ...thanks Paige! So cute and so special...love the skeleton crew!  Dinner was delish (Mongolian Beef and Rice that I found on pinterest while on our vacation here:)) I will be making that one soon! This felt kinda like our times at the lake where we are just in one place, eating and truly relaxing all weekend,! It was exactly what I needed most. Thank you Lord, for always meeting our needs, for providing every single detail and MORE. Amen. Day#290 Countdown to Sixteen Blessings, Suzanne

31 Days of Pink: Snapshots in Charlotte

Image
"So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13 Robin and I 2015 We are so fortunate to have lots of family in Charlotte! I was explaining to Abby and Luke that I used to get just as excited as they did Friday when we pulled in Charlotte to see my cousins! Of course that led to some stories of us as kids, walking to the shopping center down the street..on and on. So many great memories! It was fun to make the drive over to the lake today and visit around the table!! Thanks for the delicious brunch, Sandy!! Addy, Suz, Luke, Abby, Shannon 2015 Samantha, Luke and Abby 2015 Sherry and I 2015 And tonight, the four big kids, Paige and Tripp headed to "Scarowinds" for some halloween fun.  Mae, Ruby and I had a craft night! 31 Days of Pink: Charlotte Bound

Image
"Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather be healed." Hebrews 12:12,13 It's been a rainy, restful day in Charlotte! We drove up for a few days since they have a semi-fall break (two days off). A little time away from projects and the busy pace, to sit and chat with coffee and hear the voices and stomping around of six kids throughout the house all morning long. AHHHHHH. So, needed a break. Some down time. And I had a down day, no planning, scheduling, driving, just sitting and relaxing! Time to refresh and restore. The whole gang at Dinner  Here again. Full Circle. Something about this trip as well, takes me back and moves me forward. And remember to experience the beauty of the season! Every day is a gift! Thank you, Lord! Day#288 Roadtrip memories Blessings, Suzanne

31 Days of Pink: Angels by Your Side

Image
" Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16 Hey friends! I just wanted to write a quick note, seems I haven't had much time to write letters as I prefer (aka longer posts), lately. Sun up to sun down the days are filled. It's a good place, a healthy place and one that I set my mind and heart on years ago. It's just funny how when you finally get to the "once I get there" place, there's a whole new set of possibilities, responsibilities and challenges.  The beauty of this season of life is being able to experience it. There was a time when all I wanted was to be able to drive carpool. Now I about to turn the keys over to my little girl next week..(sniff, sniff). And I missed being so involved with their schoolwork. Now I am the study buddy and project helper. There is just so much out there I want to do and that&

31 Days of Pink: Stand Strong

Image
" Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power." Ephesians 6:10 This is an excerpt from milestone five year "cancer free" post .... I am not stronger because I fought and won the battle (WAR) of cancer, I am stronger because Jesus used a trial in my life to completely remake me. I am not stronger because I can now do all the normal tasks again, I am stronger because Jesus helped me to realize the importance of keeping my priorities in order. I am not stronger because my marriage survived, I am stronger because Jesus is working on two imperfect people and transforming our hearts and minds. I am not stronger because I had the most supportive friends and family ever, I am stronger because Jesus is my best friend. I am not stronger because of my children, I am stronger because Jesus entrusted these two little souls to me to teach daily and be an example of what it means to be a disciple of Christ. I  am STANDING stronger because of Jesu

31 Days of Pink: Fear Of Recurrence

Image
" But now says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are mine." Isaiah 43:1 Shelley and I, December 2009  You feel a weird pain in your hip one day then the next. Another time,a quivering pain down your spine, that went on for days. You have what you are sure are migraine headaches for ten days out of the month. Next thing you know you have had an MRI for every body part it seems. Yes, that would be me. And after talking with so many people over the last six years, it is quite common. With each pain there's that nagging question and sudden fear of "oh no, it'ssssss baaaaaccckk!!!" Google comes next. Oh no. Back up. Lord Help!!!! The "R" word ...Recurrence. I think in the first couple of years my body was recuperating, mainly from the chemotherapy and Herceptin. I did not want to take a chance at waiting if something was hurting or
