Get Your House in Order: Almost Seventeen Years

Image
"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:18 Tomorrow Jeff and I celebrate seventeen years of marriage. As I was cleaning out the den cabinets tonight, I found this picture or "zap" as we called them in college. I was 18 and a Phi Mu pledge and he was a Theta Chi pledge! We met at our first swap, but we didn't start dating until 1995,  after we graduated. More on our story tomorrow.... Mom got a good report at the doctor today and her surgery date set. She feels so relieved. Now she can just focus on building strength! I meant to take a picture today, but forgot, it was great  to see feeling so well! Ok, it's Friday and my words are few, but I hope and pray your weekend is bright! Are you still reading the Psalms??? I am so enjoying one each day! Day#73 There's plenty to look forward to Blessings,  Suzanne

Get Your House In Order: Dinner with GiGi

Image
" It is written:"I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak" 2 Corinthians 4:13 Dinner with Gigi March 2015 A short and sweet post tonight...look who we had dinner with tonight? Mom was up and at 'em, on the front porch when we pulled up this afternoon...yehh, more like herself again! I came in tote with the crockpot, and she helped me get the green beans and pasta going. She set the table and we had a candlelight dinner in her pretty dining room. Our prayers are being answered, thank you, Lord. We did homework, dinner and TV with Gigi tonight ....so nice to have her back:) "They shall wait upon the Lord...shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31 Day#71 Be Thankful Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order: Piddling

Image
"But seek first the kingdom of God  and his righteousness,  and all these things will be added to you." Matthew 6:33 This is how Boston looks at me when I am writing! I can't tell you how many times I have called my Mom, over the years and asked her what she was doing and she says "oh, just piddling." Meaning just kinda, doing things here and there, feeling like you are getting the things done that YOU want to do. Not much that anyone else would even notice. That's what I consider piddling and that is what I have been doing for last few hours! Amazing the kind of energy you have when you take a thirty minute nap and then go for a run! I was thrilled to have Luke go run/walk with me tonight, made it go by so much faster and we talked the whole way...smile.  I will be glad to hear Mom say she is "piddling" again soon and she will. She has several doctor appointments this week and we will find out (hopefully) on Friday, when her surge...

Get Your House in Order: Keep Marching

"For by grace you have been saved through faith,  and this is not your own doing,  it is the gift of God." Ephesians 2:8 More of Abby's artwork 2014 If you were asked to describe your day, what would you include? Would you tell of all your troubles or what God did through you? I choose to tell you that He took a rainy day and brought plenty of sunshine through  the people He placed in my path. Those I knew and those I didn't know.   What a gift. Get Your House in Order: From the Safe Place

And Moses said to the people "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still." Exodus 14:13 It's all about the Cross Hey Friends,  I have had this post written for two years and did not feel to release it until now. I praise God for the journey and for the progress and joy that He gives me, that can be found in NOTHING else. Amen. If I had one word to describe the year 2013 it would be...different.  I celebrated my fourth year being cancer-free, without a word on facebook, an acknowledgement on caringbridge or even so much as a reminder to my family.  I needed some time off.Even as  both, difficult and freeing, as the cancer diagnosis was, it had become familiar, my new normal. For three years, atleast. I had a new peer group who saw things in a way that made sense to me because they too had walked thr...

Get Your House in Order: Daisy

Image
"But I have trusted in your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in your salvation." Psalm 13:5 Miss Daisy Meet our bunny, Daisy. I decided to let her have some "run around" time before the dogs got up on Thursday morning, the snow day. If you think our house sounds like a zoo, it is. Literally. With the cold weather, Daisy has been in the den and she greets me every morning by pounding on the cage until I bring her some carrots (I fall for it every time)! She has not always had the best manners, is quite difficult and she is just not warm and fuzzy in her personality:) Abby begged for her five or so years ago and I finally gave in, after I had finished my last cancer surgery. So, she is part of the family, but she is a loner..haha! Anyway, I got her out this morning as well and put her in the chair with me while I read and drank way too much coffee. She seemed very content and slightly cuddly. Made me miss my yorkie, Katie. Sniff, sniff. I laughed so hard o...

Get your house in Order: Quiet

Image
"and  to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life:  You should mind your own business  and work with your hands,  just as we told you."  1 Thessalonians 4:11 It has been really quiet around here today. Rarely am I here without someone on the weekend but today let me just tell you...the quiet was so nice. The house was quiet. My mind was quiet. And my hands were busy! Staying on the journey, I cleaned out both of Luke's closets and his dresser drawers while he was gone. He had already gone through the toy closet last week and filled a bag with toys to give away. So it was basically just a matter of straightening. As for the dresser drawers, everything had to come out. And be folded. And be put neatly back in the drawers:) Some of my observations during this process were:lots of clothing that needed to be ironed (not my best skill), found lots of clothes I forgot he had and remembering that I had done this same process a couple of months ago. ...

Get Your House in Order: God's Beauty

Image
"I delight to do your will, O my God, And your law is within my heart." Psalm 40:8 Have a wonderful weekend!  Blue skies and green pastures. Sleet and snow. Sunshine and rain. Enjoy all the beauty of God's Creation. Day#65 Be mindful of all God's handiwork Blessings, Suzanne P.S. Update on Mom is that she is better each day! No new changes:) I suspect Home health and PT will be discharging her soon. She is still needs to rest to heal, but is also able to do more for herself now which makes her very happy, I totally get it! Keep praying! The Lord is healing her!Amen.

Get Your House In Order: Unexpected blessings

Image
"But if we walk in the light, as he is light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies all." John 1:7 Pop's Birthday, August 2014 Well, school was out today, I worked from home and planned to atleast  just wash and dry the six loads or  of laundry! I thought I could pile it all on the bed and fold and put away this afternoon. Wasn't that a good (fun albeit) plan? Yes, until my towels dried for two hours and I realized they weren't dry at all. I called Nonna (Jeff's Mom) to see if I could do my clothes there and of course she said yes. Abby and Luke wanted to ride over with me because it had just started sleeting and snowing and they thought this was a mighty crazy thing for their Mom to do. The Fuddy, duddy to actually get out in the weather? But it's laundry and it's gotta be done. Sleet, rain, cold, whatever, today is the day. So we drove the clothes over, loaded them up and came back home. I got bu...

Get Your House in Order: An Anchor

"We have this hope  as an anchor for the soul,  firm and secure." Hebrews 6:19 Day #63 Stay in the Word Blessings, Suzanne

Get Your House in Order:Weekly Check-up

Image
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13 It is so important each week for me to review the list of "key points" both as a reminder and as a compass! I hope that you are incorporating some small changes into your life and are seeing some fruit. And thank you all so much for taking the time to read my post! I so appreciate hearing from you on your journey and thank you for the messages and emails sharing your thoughts and stories. I love to hear the stories of others, it is by far, where I get most of my inspiration to write. Hearing and watching people lives out their stories, rather. We all have one. or two or three..smile!God has given us all a testimony to share, are you sharing yours??  So.... here's the list from this week: Focus on: 54. Giving up what you don't need 55. Enjoying what is to come 56. Having a few more slow pace days 57. Doing my job well 58. What you can change, not on what you can't ...

Get Your House in Order: Action Required

Image
"For as the body without the spirit is dead,  so faith without works is dead also." James 2:26 Are you as ready for Spring as I am? These yellow tulips sure were nice to come home to on Friday and brought some Spring right on in the house (Thank you, Jeff). This is the month I plan to put some action to my words and get on with what I set out to do. Get the house in order and better organized. I have big plans to do some cleaning up and out! I started TODAY. That's right, spring cleaning has sprung at the Moore house and only one Moore is excited about it!  While cooking dinner, I decided I could clean out the two drawers on each side of the stove. Since I only had an hour, I decided that would be the best way to spend my time. And guess what happened? I got the cabinets above those drawers straightened as well. Check. Now please do not look at any room in my house, but by all means look in those drawers and cabinets..haha! The Red Beans and Yellow Rice ...

Get Your House in Order: March On

Image
"Into your hand I commit my spirit;  You have redeemed me,  O LORD God of truth." Psalm 31:5 2015 AWTA Awards Banquet Happy first day of March! I always love starting a new month! Today after church Abby and I went to the Alabama Winter Tournament Association Awards Banquet at the awesome venue, The Barn at Shady Lane. There are three tournaments in December, January and February (brrrrr!) and are hosted at different barns with the idea to keep everyone in practice for the upcoming horse show season. It has been such a great experience for Abby the past few years, one proud Mommy here! Ashley and Abby  H ere is the whole Rocking S Farms gang (missing a few)! Such a special group of girls and very proud of each one! Our Saturday's spent on horse show weekends are always a full of fun! Rock Stars! Love it! Abby and I loved this picture the most, with everybody getting ready for the big shot..haha! What a nice afternoon! It h...

Get Your House In Order: Cancer Gala 2015

Image
" For God said, who said,  "Let there be light in the darkness, "  has made us understand that this light  is the brightness of the glory of God  that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:6 When Jeff sent me an email about going to another Gala this year, I can't say I was that excited. Don't get me wrong, I am all about raising funds for causes and these types of events are wonderful venues to do so. And for most people (girls), the idea of getting dressed up and going out is.. ideal. It used to be for me. Now, I prefer a much lower profile, a home cooked meal, earlier bedtime and being with my family. The problem with that is, I have made that ideal, so now we shake it up:) I quickly changed my mind and my attitude when I found out that this was the ARTBLINK Gala for The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center to raise funds for cancer research. A cause close to my heart. And not to mention, Jeff and I are way over due for a date ni...

Get Your House In Order:Answer

Image
" For am I seeking the approval of man, or of God?  Or am I trying to please man?  If I were still trying to please man,  I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:10 Have you ever asked God why you are in the same situation, different day? Have you ever had Him answer that question  with an unlikely example? Well, that happened to me yesterday. I was working at one of the local hospitals.  As I stepped  out into the hall, from a pain management doctor's office, I saw a lady, about my age, working hard at getting herself to the elevator in a wheelchair. I felt bad zipping by and not saying anything so I say "You are doing so well, I would help you, but I know you are getting stronger by doing it yourself." She smiled and said "Yes, I am ready to be out of this thing." I explained that I only knew that because I worked for a physical therapy company and had been a patient myself. It took her twice as long but she was determined....

"For to the snow He says, 'Fall on the earth,'  And to the downpour and the rains, 'Be strong.' Job 37:6 Snow 2015 Day #57 Focus on doing my job well Blessings, Suzanne P.S. Saw Mom at lunch and she had rollers in her hair, feeling better and getting things lined up...yep she is getting somewhat back to normal:))

Get Your House in Order: It's Snowing

Image
"O Lord, the King rejoices in your strength.  How great is his joy in the victories you give." Psalm 21:1 "Where's the snow?" I asked Luke for the snapshot tonight since he and I have been together, ALLLL day, waiting, watching and getting weary (not really).  I was up in the pull down attic, piling in the stuff I cleaned out from the playroom,  (sidenote: getting the house in order;)) when I heard "Itttttt's snowing, Mommy." Finally. I have sung "let it snow" repeatedly and loudly , I have worked, cleaned, did laundry, made chicken noodle soup, stayed in my pajamas, and finally tackled the playroom late this afternoon. Still no snow.  And finally, I have two happy campers playing in the flakes! Abby has enjoyed sleeping very late and being in her room most of the day:) But she surfaced when it started getting to the "snow time." Now they are making mini versions of snowmen and excited that school just got del...

Get Your House in Order: Expected Snow

Image
"To the end that my glory may sing praise to You  and not be silent. O Lord my God,  I will give thanks forever." Psalm 30:12 First grade, Big snow in Douglasville, Ga Snow is all the rage around this house tonight...the excitement, the wonder and the ease of knowing there is no school tomorrow! Oh to be a kid again! I have proof from the picture,  first grade, Douglasville, Georgia, (sporting those boots) that I too, had a little fun once upon a snow day! In the south, we it's such a treat because it's not the norm. And yes, we go bizerk with a few inches:) We have food, a fireplace, coffee and hot chocolate, all set!! The anticipation of  snow and ice has had it's highs and lows the past two weeks. And even Luke said to me yesterday "I am giving up on it even snowing this year." I got it. He was disappointed. Let down from what he expected. Yet today, he has been updating me quite frequently about "the big snow ." As for m...

Get Your House in Order: Weekly Check-Up and then Some

Image
"I am the door;  if anyone enters through Me,  he will be saved,  and will go in and out  and find pasture."  John 10:9 Last week's Wednesday Weekly check-up was cancelled due to a more important topic, Mom's health condition:) The thing is I didn't realize it until today, when I was looking for those little pink post-its, ready to get back on course. As a chronic list maker, as well as coordinator of, hmm, many things...it feels comforting to look at a list, telling ME what to do. What to focus on. What to discipline myself to do. And knowing that each number represents a day that the Lord gave me to live out His plan.  He is the One that gives me the ideas of what to focus on anyway! So we continue...small changes. Day after day. Focusing on........ Hope. Standing Guard. Let your mind rest. Balance. Restoration. Still Waters. Trust More, Doubt Less. Keep the right perspective. Get stronger. Praise. Confidence in Christ. Yest...
