Get Your House in Order: Kitchen Before and Afters

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. "
Romans 10:9

Our first Easter in 2001..Abby dying eggs

The kitchen it truly the heart of the home and in our case, right in the center of everything! I remember looking at this house for the first time and deciding this was it because of this kitchen (and the hall bathroom). The galley style has served us well. It has been painted three times in thirteen years..terrecotta/gold, green and now the off white (wool skein). I love to cook and most of the time, have always had one or both children in there with me while I prepare meals. When we bought this house, I was so sure those hunter green counter tops would be replaced within a year. They matched the Ivy wallpaper that I covered with sheet rock mud to give the stucco look. But we waited eleven years. Timing is everything and many other things came before that expense. We appreciate them so much more that way, anyway:)

Green Kitchen at Christmas
Many a Christmas breakfast has been eaten at these tables, with both sets of parents, an annual tradition. This was our dining room table for years.

Our farmhouse table and bench were built by Jeff. After searching for one that would fit and in our price range, he came up with the idea to build one from our existing outdoor table (faux teak) that fell apart (after one season, very disappointing purchase). I love the dark stain and that we were able to use the chairs. I just found some ourdoor cushions that matched the decor and they have worked well with kids and spills!  By far, my favorite feature in the kitchen is our "criss cross window".

And here is our kitchen now! The long awaited granite counter tops and subway tile go great with the white cabinets. I wish I had a picture of the old cabinets doors. There were twice as many and we decided to clean them up a bit with one cabinet door. Here again, thanks Pop, Cabinet Components made our doors. We updated the sink, 1950's stove and range during the countertop installation.

And I cannot tell you how much time I spend right here!! Loading and unloading dishes, looking out the window! All part of the life we live in this kitchen. Serving, gathering, cooking, laughing, singing, yelling, breaking up fights, hugging, homework...the heart of the home.

Speaking of our hearts, mine is on the season of the Savior and Lord I follow, Jesus, who it risen! "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay." Matthew 28:6

Thank you for the cross. The resurrection. The life.
Happy Easter from our family to yours!
