31 Days of Pink: Connection

"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity...so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Romans 15:5-6

At Saturday's race there were expected to be 12, 000 or more people there. I included my snapshots of those that I saw. But one thing I loved more than anything was the connection. I met someone in the  survivor line who was my age that was finishing out her first year in stage 4 breast cancer. I met another new friend that was my age, five years out and just had a recurrence. And with each woman, I felt more empowered after talking with them. Why? Because of the strength and the tenacity in the words they speak about fighting and getting through the treatment and living their life. Always moving forward.

As Carla and I were leaving, and trying to find where we parked...smile...there was a small group of ladies talking to the police officer that we needed directions from, so when I asked, they too were in need of directions. To the survivors parking garage. I couldn't help but notice the leader of the group, bald, with a pink t-shirt like mine. She was so confident. And then she started talking to Carla and telling her friends how she wanted them to see how thick her hair was going to be, pointing to Carla's new doo. It was a moment. It really is beautiful hair, fresh growth, unharmed by all the chemicals and thick and curly, usually. You learn to recognize it after you have had it. So we talked hair and treatments for a minute and parted ways. Until today. I walked into one of my physician offices to make a call and guess who was at the front desk? My new friend. Sitting there at that desk, just as confident with no hair and we couldn't get it out fast enough..."I know you, I met you Saturday." It was a connection. Out of all those 12, 000, of course...God doesn't make mistakes! This was a great post to follow up on my "being bald" post. I know some very strong ladies who wear this very well and really, I never even think about the fact that they don't have hair. Maybe you didn't with me either?

On Day 14, I thank you, Father for the strong women you have brought into my life through the connection of breast cancer.  Amen.

Blessings,
Suzanne
